Our most complete programme combines the famous and more obvious destinations with visits to lesser-known sites such as the Central Highlands, home of the Joraï and Banar minorities. You will discover the true diversity of our country and will marvel at its beauty and the friendliness of its people.
Day 1 : Arrival in Hanoi (D)
You will be met at the airport. Afternoon cyclo tour of the Old Quarter. Evening meal at a restaurant.
Day 2 : Hanoi / Perfume Pagoda / Hoa Binh (B,L,D)
Leave for the Perfume Pagoda, pilgrimage site for Buddhists some 70km from Hanoi. Upon arrival you will be taken to the pagoda Thien Tru by sampan. Along the way, you will stop to visit the Den Trinh temple and a few other pagodas. Further down the river Yen, a light lunch is taken before the climb to the Giai Oan Pagoda and the Huong Tich cave. Travel to Hoa Binh late afternoon. Overnight in Hoa Binh.
Day 3 : Hoa Binh / Mai Chau / Tam Coc (B,L,D)
After breakfast, we leave for Mai Chau, home of the White Tay. On the way, we visit a rural village, where the Muong still live according to their traditions.
Lunch in Mai Chau. Then on to Ninh Binh later in the afternoon. Overnight in Tam Coc.
Day 4 : Tam Coc / Thung Nang / Hoa Lu / Kenh Ga (B,L,D)
We begin the day with a spectacular sampan trip (2h) through the rice fields that seperate the sugar loaf hills. Then we continue by bike until we reach Hoa Lu, where the temples of Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh stand testament to the men who first united the country. Lunch in Kenh Ga in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, a boat trip across a vast flood plain. Back to Tam Coc in late afternoon.
Day 5 : Tam Coc / Halong Bay (B,L,D)
Early start on the road to Halong Bay. Sail by junk through the mesmerising landscapes, across emerald coloured water. Seafood dinner and overnight on the junk.
Day 6 : Halong Bay / Hanoi
Enjoy a morning cruise across the bay. Back to Hanoi in the afternoon, including a stop at the potters’ village of Dong Trieu.
Day 7 : Hanoi / Hue (B)
Discover the capital city of Vietnam. We visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, his old house, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Tran Quoc and Quanh Thanh Pagodas and the Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, we visit the Museum of Ethnology and the Ngoc Son temple in Hoam Kiem lake. The day ends with a transfer to the airport and flight to Hue.
Day 8 : Hue (B,L)
Begin your day in the Imperial City of the Nguyen Dynasty by visiting its palaces and dynastic temples by cyclo. After lunch. enjoy a sampan trip on the Perfume River, the Thien Mu Pagoda and the mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang; followed by a stroll in the outskirts of Hue towards the forgotten sanctuary of Ho Quyen and Voi Re, known in medieval times as the Arena of the Elephant and the Tiger. See the Tu Hieu Pagoda before returning to the hotel.
Day 9 : Hue / Hoi an
Depart for Danang in the morning, stopping in the Pass in the Clouds to admire the spectacular view of the Lang Co peninsula. Visit the impressive museum dedicated to the Cham civilisation. Arrival in Hoi An. Afternoon bike ride, or in a cyclo, through the streets towards the small fishing harbour. Take a boat out into the harbour to watch the local fishermen at work.
Day 10 : Hoi An / Cham Island / Hoi An (B, L)
We take the boat for the island of Cu Lao. Here you have the opportunity to go diving, in the presence of certified instructors, or sunbathe in the white sands. Lunch is served on the beach. Return to Hoi An in the late afternoon.
Day 11 : Hoi An / Kontum (B,L,D)
Early morning start for Kontum in the Central Highlands. On the way, we stop near Tam Ky to admire the remaining Cham pillars, which date from the XI century, and visit a village inhabited by the H’Re. Once in Kontum, we head for the villages of the Banhar and the Kon Jari where you can bathe in the river, time permitting. Overnight in Kontum.
Day 12 : Kontum / Pleiku
The Dak To village is located 40km north-west of Kontum. Cross the river over the suspension bridge to reach the Sedang and Da Ki Rob villages, which are on the way to Dak Ri Peng. Visit the charming seminary and the wooden church in Kontum, built in 1913. On to Pleiku, with a stop in the Jarai village of Yachim (pending authorisation) and at Bien Ho lake. Overnight in Pleiku.
Day 13 : Pleiku / Buon Ma Thuot / Lak Lake (B,L,D)
Morning start for Buon ma Thuot (200km) through the Ta Grong Pass passing numerous tea and coffee plantations. Upon arrival, we visit the Museum of Ethnic Minorities in Buon Ma Thuot. In the afternoon, we stop in the Jun village before an elephant ride across Lak Lake. Spend the night in a M’nong traditional long-house by the lake.
Day 14 : Lak Lake / Whale Island (B, L,D)
We leave the Central Highlands for the coast. Once in Nha Trang, we take the boat to Whale Island. Spend the night in a bijou cottage in the island resort.
Day 15 : Nha Trang / Whale Island (B,L,D)
Enjoy a day off to top up your tan or make the most of the water sports on offer. Another night on the island.
Day 16 : Whale Island / Nha Trang / Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Transfer to Nha Trang airport for a flight to HCMC, where you will be welcomed and escorted to your hotel. (B’fast)
Day 17 : Ho Chi Minh City / Mekong Delta – Cai Be (B,L)
Explore the city’s colonial past, the cathedral, the magnificent post office and Catinat St. China town (Cho Lon) is more than a colourful distraction. After lunch, we leave the bustle and dust of Saigon behind for Cai Be where we jump abord a motorised sampan towards an eco-farm on an island in sumptuous suroundings. Overnight in a bungalow, on the island.
Day 18 : Cai Be / Long Xuyen (B, L)
Early rise to catch the Cai Be floating market. Then on foot, we head for Tan Phong island through villages and orchards. Before we reach Long Xuyen, we stop in Sadec, at the primary school where Marguerite Duras was taught. Expect a warm welcome from the children. Overnight in Long Xuyen.
Day 19 : Long Xuyen / HCMC (B,L)
We will be woken by the bustle of the floating market. Hundreds of boats come together to trade goods. This is an unforgettable experience.
Before heading back to HCMC, we trek to the Cu Lao Onh Ho. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 20 : Departure from Ho Chi Minh City (B)
Spend your last day in famous Saigon, shopping or taking in the unique atmosphere before your transfer back to the airport.
